From its strategic position in Morocco, the mining industry has demonstrated its leadership internationally, taking advantage of its rich geology and location. The coming year is set with a clear goal: increase investment in the mining sector to consolidate its position and attract both local and foreign investors. The Moroccan Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development has developed a plan to increase revenue from phosphate mineral extraction, from $730 million to $1.700 billion by 2030.
A decade ago, the Moroccan government initiated a strategy that spanned from exploration to commercialization in the mining industry. In 2013, this vision was solidified with the modernization of laws and regulations, restructuring of traditional mining, and increased production rates.
Political and social stability, along with skilled labor and good infrastructure, have fueled the sector’s boom. It contributes 10% to the economy, generating 40,000 direct and indirect jobs. Morocco, being the world’s largest exporter of phosphate, receives 6.3 billion dollars annually from this industry.
In short, the Moroccan mining industry is a global benchmark thanks to its geology and location. The investment efforts, backed by political stability and solid infrastructure, promise a promising future.
